Air is all around us. Its around us as we walk and play. From the time we were born, air was around us on every side. When we sit down, it is around us. We live in air.
All living things need air. Living things cant live without air. We can go without food or water for a few days but we cant live for more than a few minutes without air. We take in air. When we are working or running, we need more air. When we are asleep, we need less air.
We live in air, but we can not see it.
We can only feel it. We can feel it when it is moving. Moving air is called wind. How can you make air move? Here is one way. Hold an open book in your hands in front of you. Close it quickly. What can you feel? What you feel is the air.

Knowledge is Power 知识就是力量
Recently there has been a discussion regarding the issue of knowl-edge in the newspaper. As can be seen from the picture, knowledge is symbolized by a clenched fist as power. The fist sends out message for "obedience", threatening to crack with power any hard nut.
The more demanding and challenging a task is, the more powerful the fist seems to grow. Similarly, knowledge, the strongest power for humanbeings, feeds up the field of science and technology. The more ad-vanced and developed a field is, the more profound knowledge seems to become.
A specific example is the dunaping of Mir, Russias space station. As is the case of the Russian space program, the country could no longer afford to keep Mir aloft in orbit because of lack Of financialsupport. Therefore, Russia decided to dump the space station. The effect is both immediate and farreaching. As far as the present is concerned, the successful launching and dumping of IVrLr has proved to the world that mankind, armed with profca. md knowledge, cannot just build things but can operate them welt. But the overgrowth of population presents a threat to the existence of human society. A large population demands a GREat deal of food supply and shelter space. However, limited productivity and scarce world resources can hardly meet the needs of the ever-increasing population. Thus, in the long run, the overgrowth of the world population will only harm mankind.
To guarantee the steady development of human society, mankind must realize the consequences resulting from fast population growth and carry out a family planning programme. Only by adopting effective measures, can human society develop steadily and have a bright future.

For a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin , real life. But, there was always some obsacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinnished business, time still to be served or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin.
长久以来，生活——真正的生活，好象立刻就要开始了。然而总是有些障碍，有些事需要先处理，有些工作还没有完成，时间像是一位要侍奉的主或者是一笔要偿还的债，然后生活才能开始。
At last it dawned on me that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you share it with someone special, someone special enough to spend your time with.

Stop waiting until the weekend, when you can party or let loose, until summer, spring, fall or winter, until you find the right person and get married, until you die, until your born again, to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy.

The Importance of Self-confidence 自信心的重要性
Self-confidence means the firm belief thatyou can do things well. If you want to succeed in doing anything, you must have confidence in your ability. Otherwise, you may hardly achieve anything. Somepeople always complain about how difficult their tasks would be and how incapable they are. They often refuse to have a try, and therefore have no opportunity to overcome difficulties in order to get themselves improved.Apparently, this shows their lack of self-confidence.
自信心就是坚定地认为你能够做好某事。如果你想成功，你就应当对于自己的能力十分自信。一些人常常抱怨说，他们的任务多么地艰巨，自己又是多么地无法胜任。他们经常拒绝尝试，因为根本就没有机会克服困难，提高自己。很明显，这说明他们缺乏自信。
There are several reasons why people feel frustrated or discouraged in face of difficulties. Firstly, they underestimate themselves. Second, they tend to overestimate the difficulties. Third, they areafraid of making mistakes or getting failures.
为什么人们在困难面前会感到沮丧和泄气呢？首先，他们低估了自己。其次，他们往往高估了困难。最后他们害怕犯错误，害怕失败。
It is important for young people to buildup self-confidence. As a proverb goes,” confidence in yourself is the firststep on the road to success.” we should make sufficient preparations and encourage ourselves before setting about doing anything in order to achievesuccess, which may help us gain self-confidence. We should have a right attitude toward our ability and should never look down upon ourselves. Inaddition, we don’t have to be afraid of mistakes or failures, for we can learn from mistakes and “failure is the mother of success”.
年轻人树立自信心是十分重要的，有则谚语讲到，“自信是通往成功的第一步。”为了取得成功，在着手做事的时候，我们应当做好充分的准备，不断鼓励自己，这样才能获得自信。对于自己的能力我们应当有一个正确的态度，永远不要小看自己。此外，我们还不要害怕失败和错误，因为失败是成功之母，我们可以从失败中学习。
