I showed interest in one supplier chain topic. As mentor once told me, he and his company provided training course for their suppliers, and he also supervising suppliers by visiting their plants.

I learned about incoming materials quality control and raw materials quality control in my previous company. If X is a product of factory A, also an accessory Y of factory B, we call A is a supplier of B. I suppose part of mentors responsibility is to ensure X meets quality expectation of Y. Therefore, When X is made, it would be (out) tested before delivery. When Y comes in, it would be (in) tested before production line. If X meets 100% quality assurance ideally, it would certainly save a lot testing work for factory B including testing man, testing equipment, inventory cost. I think thats why we are all bound by certain quality standard such as iso9000... Thats why I propose telecom-video can help sorting supplier when everybody obey certain standards. In fact, we conduct incoming materials testing often, maybe we also try to avoid delivery/transportation (accident) risk.

If we put it differently, factory B is outsourcing Y to factory A. Factory A is outsourcing M to factory C... ... As in for trading company, they outsourcing the full(/part) products to manufacture company. At this sense, we all belong to the industry chain from raw materials to sales market. At the end of products life, it can be recycled and made into raw materials. I guess some of supplier chain strategy is to determine how long the chain the company wants to own.

I got two examples, we have a national brand Huiyuan Juice, which sold juice in the beginning. Years ago, it sold its brand to Coca-cola and started to focus on growing fruits and trees, ie upstream industry.

Another example is IKEA. I was really really impressed by Ikeas strategy including marketing and sales. Yep, I like ikea. After buying a simple tea table for my printer, I was so glad that I can assemble it independently. yep, it was studied by Dan Ariely in the book of predictably irrational that we enjoy DIY. When I decided to buy a bookshelf, it came complex. I was frustrated by its delivery, assembly service charge. I try to avoid paying that, but I really cannot take it independently with a 2m long heavy box. After waiting for a week, my cousins family helped me to take it home. I did assemble myself again the next morning, hahah. That I learned that Ikea is really smart to outsource its logistics, production assembly, quality testing to its customers! I mean, I take it home, I assemble it, I test its quality. I did all it instead of ikea. The price of my bookshelf, as I suppose, includes raw materials and design (how to assemble conveniently with users reference). The flat packaging is easy for both ikea and customers to transport goods. Well, where is Ikeas factory? Does it have a production plant? I have never searched this question. It doesnt look like a solely trading market, or maybe. hahah
