Someone asks me what on earth happiness means? I can't give you the exact definition of it, but I'm sure if you love and help others, you'll get it..
I'll never forget an old lady. She lives in a small house alone. It's said that her husband and her son died in a traffic accident. How bitter her life is!But the old lady often helps others with a smile. Whenever it snows, she is always the first to clean the paths. She looks after several children living nearby. I am one of them. I often remember the stories she told us and her kind smile. Perhaps she is unlucky, but I think she is a happy person. Her life is full of laughter and love.
But I'm sad to see some people getting their happiness in bad ways. They speak loudly in cinemas and meeting rooms; they destroy trees to enjoy themselves and they laugh at others' shortcomings. Perhaps they feel happy at that time, but they will never get true happiness because they have lost their personality.
Now I know what happiness is. It means kindness, love and unselfishness. Above all, only bringing happiness to others can make you yourself get it.
He placed his two boxes on the floor and held the door open for his co-worker to pass through. Then, the co-worker did the same for him. It turned out that the hike up the stairs was not too bad, at least it was better than what Shawn had imagined. But then, he did see the slightly flushed face of his co-worker who was taking deep breaths. Together, the two people headed towards the meeting room. Still, the strange feeling from the brief encounter in the stairway did not leave Shawn.
G, I dont even remember the last time I did a book report on this blog, life is so busy!! :D
But since Im sick and staying home today, I finally have the time to my book "life".
So, I just finished this book in the morning, all the details are still ringing in my head(which is gooD).
The name "Tally Youngblood", the main character, was the first thing interested me in this book. The word youngblood reminded me so many things. But the story did more.
"Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she cant wait. Not for her license--for turning pretty. In Tallys world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.
But Tallys new friend Shay isnt sure she wants to be pretty. Shed rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world---- and it isnt very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever."
While reading this book, I kept having a weird phrase in my head:"to be or not to be". Is friendship more important than owning a pretty face? Is it the outside that really matters? Is freedom of having your independent ideas that important? Tally sure struggled through lots of conflicts. Even though this is a science fiction, but I felt as I was Tally, making lots of choices that could change your life forever. 14, such a sensitive age, will I ever betray my friends or lover for something not important at all? That is something to think about
There are advantages and disadvantages to coming from a large family. Make that a large family with a single parent, and they double. The disadvantages are never so apparent as when someone wants to go off to college. Parents have cashed in life insurance policies to cover the cost of one year.
My mother knew that she could not send me to college and pay for it. She worked in a retail store and made just enough to pay the bills and take care of the other children at home. If I wanted to go to college, it was up to me to find out how to get there.
I found that I qualified for some grants because of the size of our family, my mom"s income and my SAT scores. There was enough to cover school and books, but not enough for room and board. I accepted a job as part of a work-study program. While not glamorous, it was one I could do. I washed dishes in the school cafeteria.
To help myself study, I made flash cards that fit perfectly on the large metal dishwasher. After I loaded the racks, I stood there and flipped cards, learning the makeup of atoms while water and steam broke them down all around me. I learned how to make y equal to z while placing dishes in stacks. My wrinkled fingers flipped many a card, and many times my tired brain drifted off, and a glass would crash to the floor. My grades went up and down. It was the hardest work I had ever done.
Just when I thought the bottom was going to drop out of my college career, an angel appeared. Well, one of those that are on earth, without wings.
“I heard that you need some help,” he said.
“What do you mean?” I asked, trying to figure out which area of my life he meant.
“Financially, to stay in school.”
“Well, I make it okay. I just have trouble working all these hours and finding time to study.”
“Well, I think I have a way to help you out.”
He went on to explain that his grandparents needed help on the weekends. All that was required of me was cooking meals and helping them get in and out of bed in the morning and evening. The job paid four hundred dollars a month, twice the money I was making washing dishes. Now I would have time to study. I went to meet his grandparents and accepted the job.
My first discovery was his grandmother"s great love of music. She spent hours playing her old, off-key piano. One day, she told me I didn"t have enough fun in my life and took it upon herself to teach me the art.
Grandma was impressed with my ability and encouraged me to continue. Weekends in their house became more than just books and cooking, they were filled with the wonderful sounds of the out-of-tune piano and two very out-of-tune singers.
When Christmas break came, Grandma got a chest cold, and I was afraid to leave her. I hadn"t been home since Labor Day, and my family was anxious to see me. I agreed to come home, but for two weeks instead of four, so I could return to Grandma and Grandpa. I said my good-byes, arranged for their temporary care and return home.
As I was loading my car to go back to school, the phone rang.
“Daneen, don"t rush back,” he said.
“Why? What"s wrong?” I asked, panic rising.
“Grandma died last night, and we have decided to put Grandpa in a retirement home. I"m sorry.”
I hung up the phone feeling like my world had ended. I had lost my friend, and that was far worse than knowing I would have to return to dishwashing.
I went back at the end of four weeks, asking to begin the work-study program again. The financial aid advisor looked at me as if I had lost my mind. I explained my position, then he smiled and slid me an envelope. “This is for you,” he said.
It was from grandma. She had known how sick she was. In the envelope was enough money to pay for the rest of my school year and a request that I take piano lessons in her memory.
I don"t think “The Old Grey Mare” was even played with more feeling than it was my second year in college. Now, years later, when I walk by a piano, I smile and think of Grandma. She is tearing up the ivories in heaven, I am sure.
I remember many things in primary school, but the most unforgettable is the graduation ceremony. It was the end of my six year race, the day the principal's speech was still ringing in my ears...
The location of the graduation ceremony was very special, avoiding the spacious classroom of the tall movie theater and coming to benxi zoo. On graduation day we sat down. Everyone's face was grave and serious, with a little pride and hope.
When I looked at the bright banners and said, "the 20xx graduation ceremony of yingbin primary school", I was shocked that my primary school life had left me. I think, from the heated discussion of the issue to the heat of labor, from the smooth movements of the broadcast gymnastics to the brilliant smile of victory; I sigh that the students who have been together for a few days will be separated, listening to the sincere advice, looking at the friendly eyes,
There are many things to say in your heart, but you do not know where to begin.
"Please sit down, please. Please speak to President song." "The host smiled. The title of President song's speech is "believe in the future". The President wants us to be confident and optimistic about the future, regardless of the difficulties we face in our future studies or life.
After the headmaster's speech, we had a group picnic in the pine forest. Everyone sits on the soft ground, eating delicious food, listening to the sound of the birds singing, and smelling the thick rosin, chatting and singing together...
This is our graduation ceremony, a different kind of graduation ceremony. I will not forget this graduation ceremony, also will not forget the principal said "believe in the future", will not forget my lovely Alma mater -- yingbin primary school.

Every body wants to succeed. But when it comes to the question that which factor leads to success, opportunity or hard-work, different people will offer different answers. Some people think that opportunity is the first factor leading to success. They hold the idea, as a proverb saying, “Man proposes, god disposes”. Because almost all successful people have good luck and have caught their valuable opportunities, they believe that opportunity is a leading conndition of the success.
If seizes and makes the best use of opportunity available, one can succeed surely. In summary, to them, chances and lucks play the most important role on the road to success. However, others maintain that “no pains, no gains” .Without exerting oneself, one could never expect to achieve success in no matter what one is doing. As is known to all, there is no royal road to the summit of success. One is likely to succeed only when one has worked with whole-hearted devotion and perseverance. Those who are lazy, sloppy and indifferent to their work, those who never concentrate on work will definitely end in failure.
On the whole, as far as they are concerned, hard-working is the decisive factor to success. In my view, both hard work and opportunity eventually matters. They are inseparable from each other, and put together, they make a great success. Hard work is to luck what fish is to water, and can be seen as an interior precondition of success. It lays the corner-stone for building a house while luck serves to cement it, to make the building bricks adherent to one another. They are the twins that contribute to success together. They are the factors from within and without respectively. We must work hard, make efforts and get prepared. When opportunities come, meet and make full use of them. Only in this way can we succeed one day.
