1. Now utopia has grown unfashionable， as we have gained a deeper appreciation of the range of threats facing us， from asteroid strike to epidemic flu and to climate change. （2013. 阅读。 Text 3）
【译文】随着我们对人类面临的威胁有更加深刻的了解，如流星撞击、传染流感和气候变化，乌托邦如今已成昨日黄花。
【析句】本复合句由主句和as引导的时间状语从句组成，主句为utopia has grown unfashionable，时间状语从句中，threats facing us为现在分词作定语，相当于which face.from……to……常用于举多个例子。
2.The potential evolution of today's technology， and its social consequences， is dazzlingly complicated， and it's perhaps best left to science fiction writers and futurologists to explore the many possibilities we can envisage. （2013.阅读。 Text 3）
【译文】今日科技面临的潜在革命以及可能造成的社会后果极为复杂，或许最好还是留给科幻小说家和未来学家来探索人们可预见的可能性。
【析句】复合句的主干为The potential evolution……and its social consequences is dazzlingly complicated，and it's best left to science……futurologists……，可以看出本句由两个成并列关系的句子组成，第一句是简单句，第二句中又包含省略了that的定语从句we can envisage.
3.As so often， the past holds the key to the future： we have now identified enough of the long-term patterns shaping the history of the planet， and our species， to make evidence-based forecasts about the situations in which our descendants will find themselves. （2013. 阅读。 Text 3）
【译文】通常说来，过去是通向未来大门的钥匙：我们现在已经发现众多塑造了地球历史和物种的长期模式，有足够证据对未来我们的后代所处的环境作出预测。
【析句】多重复合句，主句为the past holds the key to the future，冒号后阐述具体内容，主谓宾为we have identified enough of the long-term patterns，shaping the history of the planet and our species为现在分词作定语修饰patterns，to make……situation是目的状语，in which则引导定语从句修饰situations.
