Unit 4 Amazing Science Topic3 I don’t think aliens can be found in space. Section C 九年级 林丽娟 Teaching aims and demands: 1. Learn more knowledge about Mars. 2. Foster students’ active attitude towards science and positively exploring the unknown fields of science. Teaching procedure: Step1 Review 1. Would you like to share your opinions with your classmates? A: How old is our earth? It’s about 4 600 million years old. B: .Do you like our planet? Why? If not, where do you prefer to live? 2. The teacher plays a video about Mars, then ask students to answer the following two questions: A. What does Mars look like? B. Do you think that Mars is a suitable place for human beings to live? T: Do you want to know more about Mars ? Let’s come to Section C. Step 2 Presentation 1. Let’s learn and master some new words first: solar system (Mars is the fourth planet from the sun in our solar system and is named after Mars, the Roman god of war. ) diameter ( A circle is divided into two halves by diameter) Roman ( 1. Do in Rome as the Romans do . 2 . All roads lead to Rome.) 2.Listen to 1a and scan it , then let students find out difficult sentences in the passage and the teacher writes them down on the blackboard. eg: 1)Its diameter is 53% as wide as that of the earth. 2) The gravity on the surface of Mars is about two-fifths as strong as it is on earth. 3) Scientists are still searching for more information about Mars. Step 3 Consolidation 1. Let students read 1a again , discuss the following questions in groups and answer them , finish 1b, and then check the answers. (1) What does Mars look like? (2) What’s the weather like on Mars? (3) What’s the gravity on Mars? (4) What’s the temperature on Mars? (5) How far is it from the sun? 2. Divide the class into several groups. Let students discuss the questions in 1C, and finish it, encourage students to raise more questions about Mars. 4. The teacher makes a summary and leads to 2.
