　　the week long national day holiday which started from oct. i has become not only an occasion for celebrating the birth of the nation but also a time for people to rela. after all, under great pressure every day, everyone longs to slow down and rediscover the real fun of life.

　　my only hope for the week long holiday was also to rela myself well, instead of playing well. i slept until the sun was shinning above, ate my favorite food which i scarcely have because of their high calorie, and enjoyed different kinds of films from day to night.

　　usually, i seldom went out during the holidays, as it was too terrible to battle the national day holiday crowds. but this time, i couldn＇t resist myself against the performance of music fireworks whose theme was "all colors of music".

　　as a part of the international music fireworks festival, the performance of music fireworks, designed by the swedish artists, was staged at century park in pudong on the night of october 3.

　　the scene, a spectacular combination of fireworks eploding in harmony with the music, made powerful visual and audio impact on me. the artists selected for the performance various pieces of music, including classical music by beethoven and strauss, some representative popular compositions such as "my heart will go on". with the music, the fireworks were set off in different formations. i could admire the fireworks in the sky as well as their reflections in the water.

　　arising from the river surface to the height of 300 meters in the sky, multi-layered and rich colored fireworks formulated an etremely spectacular picture. one of the most eye catchers was that nearly 1000 sparkling pieces of fireworks along the surface of the water formed a red carpet with 80 meters long and 250 meters wide. at the same time, a 10 meter-high waterfall firework rushed downwards the bridge across jingtian lake and simultaneously the red lantern shaped fireworks filled the sky. it really took me on a romantic tour as the fireworks eplode.

　　First of all，I was impressed by his devotion to teaching. Because his lectures were always well-prepared and clearly delivered， students swarmed into his classroom. His followers appreciated the fact that he believed in what he taught and that he was intellectually stimulating.Furthermore， he could be counted on to explain his ideas in an imaginative way，introducing such aids to understanding as paintings， recordings，pieces of sculpture， and guest lecturers.

　　Once he even sang a song in class to illustrate a point. Second， I admired the fact that he would confer with students outside of the classroom or talk with them on the telephone. Drinking coffee in the snack bar， he would easily make friends with students. Sometimes he would challenge a student to a game of chess. At other times， he would join groups to discuss subjects ranging from astronomy to scuba diving. Many young people visited him in his office for academic advice； others came to his home for social evenings.

　　Finally，I was attracted by his lively wit. He believed that no class hour is a success unless the students and the professor share several chuckles and at least one loud laugh.Through his sense of humor， he made learning more enjoyable and more lasting.If it is true that life makes a wise man smile and a foolish man cry，then my friend is truly a wise man. 　　to all outward seeming, the rev. t. de witt talmage is of the same material as that used in the construction of his early predecessors in the ministry; and yet one feels that there must be a difference somewhere between him and the saviors first disciples. it may be because here, in the nineteenth century, dr. t. has had advantages which paul and peter and the others could not and did not have. there was a lack of polish about them, and a looseness of etiquette, and a want of eclusiveness, which one cannot help noticing. they healed the very beggars, and held intercourse with people of a villainous odor every day. if the subject of these remarks had been chosen among the original twelve apostles, he would not have associated with the rest, because he could not have stood the fishy smell of some of his comrades who came from around the sea of galilee. he would have resigned his commission with some such remark as he makes in the etract quoted above: master, if thou art going to kill the church thus with bad smells, i will have nothing to do with this work of evangelization. he is a disciple, and makes that remark to the master; the only difference is, that he makes it in the nineteenth instead of the first century.

　　is there a choir in mr. t.s church? and does it ever occur that they have no better manners than to sing that hymn which is so suggestive of laborers and mechanics:

　　now, can it be possible that in a handful of centuries the christian character has fallen away from an imposing heroism that scorned even the stake, the cross, and the ae, to a poor little effeminacy that withers and wilts under an unsavory smell? we are not prepared to believe so, the reverend doctor and his friend to the contrary notwithstanding.
